Addressing nutritional concerns of Well Estate informal Settlement
Well Estate informal settlement is surrounded by garage as residents of the informal settlement find the nearest designated garbage site too far and the cost of getting formal housing too much for them. For this reason the health of many in the community is a matter of concern. With respiratory health and/or poor health being significantly associated with poverty, household composition and living conditions the triple environmental hazards to health. There levels of indoor dust and bad odours in the neighbourhood were reported in Wells Estate as are higher rates of selected respiratory ill-health symptoms. The lack of an effective buffer zone between human settlements and point sources of pollution associated with a range of harmful substances raises some concerns about the soil quality thus making it difficult for residents to consider developing vegetable gardens.
