Gauteng

South Africa’s economic capital, Gauteng is the smallest of the country’s 9 provinces. In spite of its popular acclaim for being the ‘city of gold’ in the 2016 South African Multidimensional Poverty Index has a 4.6% poverty headcount. This is very high considering that Gauteng continued to be the place many South Africa seek out for economic empowerment. Its 44.1% intensity of poverty is a reflection of the 35% of the population that is food insecure demonstrating the need for Operation Hunger to develop Gauteng’s data. The data is specific to the province’s nutritional driver’s and determinants.
