Food Security in the area
Malawi Camp, an informal settlement near Elsies Rivier, faces imminent relocation due to ACSA’s runway extension plans. Residents, many of whom have lived there for decades, have limited access to basic amenities like electricity and water. Unemployment and food insecurity are rampant, with many children not attending school. The community is prioritized for relocation to a formal housing development in 2023, but the lack of sustainable income and access to nutritious food remains a significant challenge for their overall health and well-being.
