Cedara is located within the uMngeni Local Municipality, which is part of the uMgungundlovu District in KwaZulu-Natal. The district has a high poverty rate, with over 60% of the population living below the poverty line. This has led to a high dependency ratio due to social grant reliance. uMngeni has a population of over 100,000 with a significant number of households headed by children or women. Unemployment is high, and only a small percentage of the population has formal employment. This is partly due to low educational levels. The district faces challenges related to infant and maternal mortality, which are influenced by factors such as maternal education, sanitation, access to healthcare, and HIV prevalence. Improving public health infrastructure and services could help address these issues.
